TAKOMA PARK VICTIMS’ FUND
An explosion rocked the Flower-Branch apartment complex in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road, in Silver Spring, Maryland just before midnight on August 10th, 2016. The complex consists of 26 four-story multi-unit buildings arranged in groups of two or three buildings, largely occupied by African and Spanish-speaking immigrants. According to The Red Cross, about 100 people were displaced. Nka Ikem Esit Charitable Organization, Washington DC responded to this tragedy as in other similar circumstances, by making a cash donation to the victims of the gas explosion, which resulted in two fatalities, and a huge loss of personal properties.
