An explosion rocked the Flower-Branch apartment complex in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road, in Silver Spring, Maryland just before midnight on August 10th, 2016. The complex consists of 26 four-story multi-unit buildings arranged in groups of two or three buildings, largely occupied by African and Spanish-speaking immigrants. According to The Red Cross, about 100 people were displaced.  Nka Ikem Esit Charitable Organization, Washington DC responded to this tragedy as in other similar circumstances, by making a cash donation to the victims of the gas explosion, which resulted in two fatalities, and a huge loss of personal properties.  Above picture features two representatives of NKA Charitable Organization, who made the donation via the Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington on our behalf.  From left to right are: Ms. V. Akehurst (administrative secretary of Adventist Community Services), Dr. Anne Wagner (NKA member) Mr. Ken Slemer (Director of the Adventist Community Services, and Dr. Felicia Bassey-Akamune (Nka V-P).
